I love Rambo movie and also the theme of the movie. I came across this video played by very good guitarist Bobby Crispy. He has played the movie’s theme. I thought i should share it.

How music has changed!

Music has changed a lot in these years. It can be for better or it can be for worse. It all depends on how you choose to look at it.

There was a time when anyone who wanted to make some music had to form a band and play with other people. This was a normal thing.

However with digital music coming into scene, a single person can make good music by sitting at home and can also play different musical instruments with help of VST. VST means Virtual Studio Technology. The person who can do this should also have some knowledge about music otherwise the person will make some mediocre music.

You can look at this situation in two ways. I mean people who can make music by himself. This person doesn’t have to be depended on anybody to make music. He or she can make music with help of some softwares. This is good if a person is not able to find any band members.

On the dark side, this is bad for musicians who make a living by recording for different producers. Music technology has become a double edged sword.

A person may also find difficult to promote his music as it will be difficult for the person to tour alone. A band can tour and make a fan base.

I would also like to say that there is nothing more enjoyable than watching a band play at a concert.

I would like to conclude that, both the ways of making music are good. It all depends on a person’s situation and goals. What do you think??

Learn Songwriting

Songwriting is an art and it is often difficult to write a song. I even know some good musicians who can’t write a song although they are very good musicians.

Some people think that songwriting is an innate talent. This can be true however I feel people can also work to achieve some songwriting skills.

Failure to communicate

I always used to wonder after listening to Guns N Roses song that where are the lines from the start of the song Civil War taken from. I recently found out that the lines were taken from the movie ‘Cool Hand Luke’. Lot of people may know this and lot may not. I found a video of the movie on You Tube and I am sharing that video and also Civil War video that I found.

Adjusting guitar truss rod.

If you are a guitar player, you know how difficult it is to play fast runs on the guitar when your strings are away from the fretboard.  If the guitar strings are away from the fretboard, then you need to adjust your truss rod. This is a very good video that i saw on You Tube and I felt I should share it with everyone.

What is the best skill that a musician should have?

What is the best skill that a musician should have? I think the best skill a musician can have is playing any song by ear. This means after listening to a song a person should be play that musical tune or phrase on his or her musical instrument without the help of sheet music or tabs.

You must have met some excellent musicians who can play any songs after hearing it for few minutes. These are the people who don’t need sheet music or tabs.

We think they are gifted. Although some of them are gifted, this skill can be developed over a period of time.

When you start to learn any musical instrument, learning to play by ear will be very difficult. I am not against guitar tabs or sheet music. When we start to learn, we can play by tabs or sheet music, which is quite normal and we can use sheet music at that time.

However over a period of time, when we are familiar with different scales and chords, we should try to play music without referring to anything. This is difficult in the beginning but when you are able to do it, you will realize that playing by ear is not that difficult after all. As everyone says, “We need lot’s of practice”. You will also need lot’s of practice to play a tune by ear.

There are many great musicians and who have this skill. Learning to play by ear not only helps us to play other songs.  It will also help us with our improvisation skills and help us to make our own great songs.

So if we have a tune in our head, we will be able to play it easily on the guitar or another musical instrument. Thats the best thing for any musician. I believe, if we are musicians, we all want to make good music.
